Personal History.

I live in Caernarfon, and have lived in Rhoslan near Criccieth for years but I come originally from Pwllheli. I am married to Dr Myfanwy Davies, an academic at Bangor University and we have a son and daughter in primary school. I also have three grown-up daughters, 5 grandchildren (that will be 6 by June) and a host of relatives.

Professional and political background.

I worked as a mental health social worker in Dwyfor for some years before joining Bangor University's staff in 1985, specialising in teaching social workers through the medium of Welsh. I then ran my own business in the same field before being elected as the MP for Caernarfon in 2001, and then as the MP for Arfon in 2010.

Main Interests.

I feel representing the people of Arfon in terms of their individual cases is a very important part of my work. At Westminster I have specialised in social policy work.

I have been a member of various parliamentary committees including the Welsh Affairs Committee, the Science and Technology Committee, the Speaker's Art Committee and the Brexit Scrutiny Committee.

For 10 years i was a member of the House of Commons Panel of Chairs, chairing House committee debates and on two memorable occasions chairing the whole Parliament in the Main Chamber.

I am currently Chair of the Multi-Party Group on Catalunya.

An interesting fact about you?

For a period in the 1990s I occasionally wrote satirical comedy material for S4C, having won a radio satire scriptwriting competition at the National Eisteddfod.
